Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media, public speaker and Canadian. Feminist Frequency was established by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips featuring commentary and analysis of gender representations in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. She is the founder and executive director of Feminist Frequency an educational not-for-profit site that examines the representation of women in popular culture narratives. As well as working to expose the issues surrounding sexual harassment and assaults on women and other minorities in online spaces she is determined to break down the stigmas and stereotypes associated with popular culture. Sarkeesian has a degree in political thought and social theory at York University. She is also an internationally acclaimed public speaking. Sarkeesian gave speeches to the TEDxWomen Festival as well as to the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Feminist Frequency was launched in the year 2009 by Sarkeesian. an undergraduate student at York University who had been interested in issues concerning gender and feminism for a long time. A woman with ambitions to create a web series that examined the gender representation of video games, she was targeted by an online campaign. This attack didn't stop her, but instead strengthened her determination as an activist for women in media. She is a recipient of many awards for her contributions to feministism. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her efforts as a critique of media and also founded Feminist Frequency. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit organization that examines how women are depicted in contemporary pop culture.
