Taylor Russell McKenzie was born on July 18, 1994 in Vancouver, British Columbia, and was raised in Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal. [1][22 Russell was born to the black father and white mother, is bi-racial and grew up with her mother's side of the family. Her skin color made her feel unaccepted during her teenage years. The family struggled with their finances and were always shifting, having to leave their homes 16 times in order to pursue her father's work. Russell spoke out about how despite all the hardships, Russell said that she had always been creatively inclined when she was a kid. She hoped to be ballet dancer, then to be an artist. When she was 18, she attended her first acting class, and finally found her place. She borrowed money from her job to purchase an automobile and travel to Los Angeles to audition. When the money ran out she would go back to work until she earned enough money to attend another audition. The process continued for four years until she was finally offered her first major television role.
